10.00am Advanced Speech Writing – What constitutes a professional speech
This introductory session will provide an analytical breakdown of what writing an Executive speech entails and will outline in detail the core elements required. It will give guidance on how to structure a speech to ensure its successful delivery in front of an audience. It will uncover the many methodologies used when composing speeches which are able to convey a message to a specific audience and survey the major components of winning speeches.
11.00am Writing Speeches for others – Executive Speech Writing
This first of two sessions provide guidance and tips on how to write speeches for MSPs or senior officials . It will identify the clear aims and objectives of how to compose and outline the different types of speeches in their role they are required to deliver. It will offer initial tips on the steps needed to be embarked upon speech writing projects, in order that the right speech is composed to meet desired professional standard. This session will end by offering template guidance on how to compose unique speeches for parliamentary business and presentations.

1.00pm Writing Speeches for others – Steps on how to get started
This session will offer basic to advanced step-by-step guidance on how to write a speech for somebody else from beginning to end. It will look at how to quickly prepare a speech, using notes and research and then how to test initial drafts for effectiveness. It will give guidance on things to avoid when composing a speech and points to include. It will discuss the importance of timing and also look at the types of rhetorical devices which can be used to enhance the structure and overall impact of a speech.
2.00pm Practical Session – Composing a speech to order
Delegates will be set a task to write a speech to order. Divided into groups of two delegates will be set a specific task based on a practical role playing exercise in which they will assume an alias Senior Official role and using this alias to compose a standard speech for one another. Then deliver their speeches and offer comment and critical analysis on how well their speech matches the required need. The session will be overseen by trainers who will offer tips, guidance and evaluation throughout the exercise.
3.30pm Practical Advice Session – Coaching others
Once a speech is written, how can you guarantee that the final outcome matches your original expectations? This final session will address this by offering direct guidance on how to effectively coach and steer the person you have written the speech for to ensure precise delivery.
