MSP Staff Development – Mental Health Awareness

MSP Staff Development

Welcome to the MSP staff development pages. We are currently in the process of developing a programme of learning and development courses open to all Members' staff. Course details will be added to this page as they come on-line.

Enabling Members to excel in their parliamentary and representative roles is a strategic priority of the Scottish Parliamentary Service. To help meet that aim, the HR Office has been working to enhance the support provided to Members in their role as employers. To support that objective, we have also been working to develop a programme of learning and development to allow you to develop your knowledge and expertise and grow in your roles. Courses will require a minimum number of people to register their interest before they can be confirmed. Notes of interest will be invited after which we will contact people with further details.

New: Speech Writing on 21 May at Holyrood, register below.

If you registered your interest in the Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention programme, you will have heard by now whether you have been offered a place or been added to a waiting list. Due to the large number of people who signed up for this course, we will be announcing an additional date in Edinburgh soon. We'll also be arranging some dates out with Edinburgh in the future.

Need to know

Costs arising from the attendance of Members’ staff at courses will be met from provision 3.5 (Incidental and Ancillary Employment Costs) of the Reimbursement of Members’ Expenses Scheme.  Staff must obtain their employing Member’s authorisation before registering their interest.

As we expect this event to be very popular, if you are allocated a place, your employing Member will be required to meet the cost of your place under provision 3.5, whether or not you are able to attend.

We will contact you to let you know if you have been allocated a place on this training.  You will have the opportunity to confirm your ability to attend at this time.

Please include the address of your local office and let us know which town/ city would be most suitable for you. We'll do our best to arrange venues that suit the majority of people, but do bear in mind that events need to be well subscribed in order to be viable.
